So this is part two, and we’ve possibly got what, maybe a couple more?

Jay: Yeah, we’ll see how long this takes us. It is a blueprint after all.

Sterling: Yeah, so we’ve got a couple more probably as well. And in the Quick Tip, we actually have a resource for tracking stats for media that you host on Amazon S3, and that’s what we mentioned in the last episode – is the Amazon S3.

And we’d like to remind you that if you’d like to get a jumpstart on creating your own profitable internet business using our proven system, you can go and claim your risk free trial membership to the Internet Business Mastery Academy by going to FreeAudioGift.com. Whew! Lots of stuff!

So what’s going on Jay?

Jay: Well Sterling, I have some bad news.

Sterling: Oh I know…

Jay: Actually you already know the bad news. And this is not news I’m looking forward to breaking to our audience. Now we’ve got everybody on the edge of their seat…anyway, we’ve been talking as of late of this web TV show that we’re going to be doing with Internet Business Mastery. And we’re definitely getting all revved up for that, and had it all planned out. And we were to be honest within a week of two of filming the thing.

But of course an important part of any joint venture or any partnership is just the legal aspects, putting pen to paper and people coming to a meeting of the minds and signing it once everyone is happy with the agreement. And of course in everybody’s excitement to get this going, we were moving things forward the building buzz for it. But some legal things still needed to be hammered out, and as can always happen, and sometimes with these things, sometimes you come to a point where it’s hard to find something that’s going to be mutually beneficial and you have to decide if it’s something that you really want to commit yourself to.

And that’s kind of the position we came to with this show. Because even though we have all the respect for the people that we were going to be doing the show with, and even some of our friends. You have to go into these things thinking okay, with the exit in mind, you cannot go do a legal relationship with everything…especially if you’re trying to play at a high level and be very serious about your brand and you’ve put hard word into it.

You can’t just let things go to chance and it’s like okay, well you know, there are friends we can trust. There’s all kinds of things that can happen. Well what if the business gets bought out later and that contract you signed is still what’s in action and what you’re still bound to. So we had to start looking at the contract in that way, with the potential exit in mind, what could this look like?

And let’s go into this protecting ourselves up front even though this is business with friends. And all that considered, we finally decided that we needed to put this on hold, and it’s not going to happen right away. And so we’re kind of in a position of kind of looking at, are we going to do this on our own? And having to kind of put it back on the drawing board, I mean everything as far as the show is concerned is still planned out, but just obviously that was how we were going to go through all the production, and editing, and a lot of things like that.

So we’d have to reconsider those sides of the business. So the video show for now is up in the air, and it may be a little air before we’re able to get it put together and out there. So we’re just kind of carefully considering the business aspects – money and time, and where we’re at with that. But we know a lot of people were very excited for this, I’ve just been pained giving this news because of all the excitement on Twitter, on emails, and Facebook people saying, “Oh, I can’t wait to see your web TV show.”

But these things happen, and we’ve worked hard to build the brand of Internet Business Mastery to where it is, and build the community up, and we just don’t want to do anything that will damage that community and that brand in the long term. So we have to be careful with what we commit ourselves to, and not spread ourselves too thin, and not sign away rights that we don’t want to.

So long story short, there it is, or maybe not so short.

Sterling: Oh and I even have more to add, oh boy. And actually one of the things that ends up happening as well is when you’re dealing obviously with lawyers and contracts and this kind of stuff, with the fulfillment stuff, and with the definite major purpose and things like this. Again, having those things makes it a lot easier to look at something even if you’re completely excited by it.
And also, be able to see if that’s going to fit in your lifestyle design, because obviously if we were contracted to fly to Salt Lake City every single month, we’ve got to look at how many days that takes, how does that fit into our lifestyle design and a lot of different things like that as well.
So those were other things that we were considering, are there possibly better ways we could do that? How do we do it so it doesn’t take too much time compared to what it’s worth, and all that kind of stuff. And the other thing I was going to mention is, if I sound different in this episode, it’s simply because I’m on the road and having to use a hundred dollar headset instead of a professional mic. So sorry about that, but I hope it sounds okay. Do I sound alright?

Jay: What? I can’t understand you, it’s all coming out all….

Sterling: Oh great. But that’s what happens, to be able to be mobile and keep things running smoothly you’ve got to find different ways to make that lifestyle stuff happen.

Jay: Well you don’t want to bring your professional mic and the whole extendable mic, radio studio arm and shoving that into the bin above your seat on the airplane or into your trunk.

Alright, well there’s the bad news. Sorry to break that, but we’ll certainly give you more updates as they become available. And you know, it’s not over for good. It’s being sidestepped for now, and we will let you know.

And with that let’s go ahead and dive into our featured segment.

And now the featured segment…

Jay: Alright, so for the featured segment, we are going to go into part 2 of our online business blueprint. Now through the power of podcasting we’ve gone through a little time warp here. Actually after recording the beginning of this episode, we decided we’d wait until Sterling got back to his home studio to record the rest of it so that we could preserve as much the usual audio quality that we have. So welcome back Sterling, you’ve blasted to the future.

Sterling: Yeah, how’s this? Do I sound better?

Jay: Back to the future.

Sterling: Yeah, we definitely wanted to make this sound as good as possible, because we might use it for other things as well. What do you think about that?

Jay: Yeah, that’s very true. Alright, so in the first part of the blueprint, we talked about the important of lifestyle design, knowing what you want before you dive into your business, knowing what kind of lifestyle you want.

Number two was to choose the niche that was right for you, choose what market you wanted to serve, and base that on some kind of expertise, or passion, or interest that you have. And the third step was talking about the importance of automation, streamlining, outsourcing; we’re going for a business that you can work less, yet still make more money over time.

So that brings us to the fourth part of the online business blueprint. And that is to build a bulletproof online empire. So we want to start out with a strong foundation. There’s a few things that you need to be aware of at this point so that you can build a business. It’s just like with the lifestyle design stuff, you want to be starting now to build a business that will provide for that lifestyle.

We also want to start now in building a business that’s going to have a strong foundation to build up on so that it’s not this house of cards that financially, or legally, or in the systems or operations that has these weaknesses that could bring it tumbling down easier. The further along…it just blows my mind sometimes when I hear when somebody’s been doing business ten, fifteen years and they’re like, “Yeah, I’m finally getting around to incorporating, or starting an LLC,” and it’s like what?!

I guess it worked for them up to that point, but all it would have taken was just the one small misstep and it could have brought down ten years of hard work. So you may as well do the few basic things right now that give you a strong foundation from the very beginning with your internet business.

Sterling: Yeah, and we’re really talking about a long term strategy here and not a ‘fly by night’ idea of finding some fad and riding it out until it fades. We want a real business that we can build and grow long term.

Jay: So I kind of already hinted at the whole business entity thing, and so that’s part of what we talked about in this fourth step of the online business blueprint. In the Academy, we go very in depth in LLC’s, and finances, and things because it’s important to have that protection.

There’s a number of reasons. We’ve talked about LLC’s a lot on Internet Business Mastery in the past, but it’s important to have protection for your assets and your wealth as you’re building it up, and to separate out your personal and business stuff. So for legal and protection reasons there’s that, and it also, it gives you kind of that stamp of…what’s the word I’m looking for…it solidifies in your mind the validity of your business when you take that effort to go out and put a bit of money down and sign the papers, and make a real business.

It’s like okay, we’re doing this for real. This isn’t a hobby, we’re creating a business here. That is one of the first things we did with Internet Business Mastery is even though we thought it was going to be just kind of a fun thing, we started an LLC. We put the paper in and created an official LLC and partnership out of it.

So you want to start putting together that protection, and then there’s also just tax advantages that can be had by putting together that kind of system. So consulting with the appropriate professionals, with the lawyer, and with the accountant, these things can help at this stage just to make sure that you’re setting things up right so you don’t create this tangled mess later that’s harder to unwind as time goes on.

So I mentioned there’s a lawyer, and an accountant, and I know these things can kind of be scary to people because they’re like, “Oh man, is that going to be expensive?” And then they’re like, “How can I find a good one?” But this is an investment in your future, and it’s not like you have to go out and pay a lawyer, $500 an hour and have them do every single thing.

You can find the right balance for you, but definitely getting some professional help early on can really just put your mind at ease, and set things up in the right way, and make the whole process go a little bit smoother. So you want to start thinking of building your team right now.

I remember this is something that in the Rich Dad, Poor Dad book, Robert Kiyosaki talked about a lot – the importance of having a strong team for your business – having people that work hard for you in terms of lawyers, accountants, bookkeepers. The areas that you don’t have the expertise, or that you don’t want to do these things, or shouldn’t be doing these things, you find strong individuals to be a part of your team to do them for you.

So early on you want to start looking for those members of your team, and we’ve got to the point now where we have over a dozen, maybe even a couple dozen different people that we use in different capacities for our businesses. Many of these people we’ve not met personally, but we have had referrals and worked with them, and built trust up, and they’ve become an integral part of our system – everything from the financial professionals, to legal help, to Virtual Assistants, and web designers, and so on and so forth.

So just start thinking now about putting that team together. It’s not like you have to go out today and hire a dozen freelancers, but early on you do want to have that in mind, and be getting the help at the appropriate times.

Sterling: And I was actually a little nervous when I first started to try and hire a lawyer to do the LLC and all that stuff, but it’s funny how once I did it made everything else easier, and it was some sort of thing about the confidence to go out and say, “Yes, I’m a business.” Like I want to be a real business, and in the end for me, like I was in Salt Lake City when I started my first LLC.

I think it cost me $350 and then of course what I found was that really the lawyer, he had the clerks or whoever they had working for him do it online – actually fill out all the LLC papers online, and they made the mistake of leaving the URL on the paper so I could see it. And then so basically, I considered well for two more LLC’s, I actually went in and filled it out. But of course I hired that guy to know exactly what to type everywhere.

So I used my first LLC as a model for doing the other stuff online, but there were a lot of little things that he knew that when I created my other LLC’s that made it completely worth paying him that the first time. And of course it made me confident enough too, to go out and when we finally find tax guys, and accountants, and bookkeepers, and people like that – just making those steps and making it legitimate changes your confidence level on a lot of things as well.

Jay: Yeah I mean when you’re first starting out, it can be very daunting to think about, the different legal aspects, the financial aspects. But that’s why it’s good…I mean we’ve talked about mastermind meetings, we’ve talked about associating with like-minded people, and that’s where you can meet a lot of these professionals, or at least get referrals to these kinds of professionals that you can trust and start turning to.

I mean I guess we could just list out…we’ve already kind of hinted at a bunch of different types of professionals that we work with, but early on this is going to include legal help when it comes to putting together your business entity. Early on it might have to do with consulting an accountant, and a lot of times an accountant will talk to you for a half hour or hour as an initial consultation, because they want you come April or whenever your tax time is wherever you live in the world. They want you to turn the papers over to them, and pay them a good chunk of money to do their taxes.

And believe me the savings and the headache is usually very worth the bill that they send you. So finding a tax consultant, a tax accountant that you can turn to early on is a good idea. Bookkeeping, for a long time we did our bookkeeping ourselves and now for a while we’ve been outsourcing all that.

I wish I’d done that just a lot earlier, because it’s just unbelievably nice to just turn that mess over to somebody else, and just all you have to do is send them little bits of information, and they send you back all the reports, and it’s just there, and it just saves you an incredible amount of time. So bookkeepers is something to think about.

Sterling: Well and I actually…just like I’m shaking my head thinking, I can’t believe I wasted so much time doing accounting stuff. Especially, it’s not expensive at all, the time it saves me and the frustration, I just wish I had of just taken the step and done it from the beginning.

Jay: Then you’ve got web designers, web programmers, Virtual Assistants to do different administrative tasks for you. And so at different appropriate times, start adding these people to your team. But we just want you to be aware of that beforehand. And another important part that we talked about in the Academy of this bulletproof online empire is to think early on about your brand and what it’s going to be.

The process that we have used over and over and that we teach is to make yourself the expert. Make yourself the trusted advisor to a loyal community of fans, of customers, of people who look to you as this expert ally in some aspect of their life. And you become an integral part in that personal brand.

We’ve seen many, many successful people be able to leverage that successful brand, and make lots of money, and have financial freedom and stability for their whole lives off of such a brand. And so that’s the process that we teach, so you want to be thinking now…it’s like okay, am I going to be the brand myself? Is it going to be a partnership like we do with Internet Business Mastery? Is the brand the business itself and it consists of a lot of different experts who participate in the brand?

But you want to think about now who is going to be the face of the company, and who’s going to be the expert, or is it going to be multiple people? And that obviously affects things like the business name, and the business web address, and things like that. Now with all these details I’m pointing out, and I certainly don’t want you to feel overwhelmed, because I know that early on I obsessed over these kinds of things, and probably spent three or four months getting them done – the business card, and the logo, and the name.

And the truth of the matter is, you don’t need to obsess over it that much. A lot of these decisions can be made very, very quickly. And now when I’m starting a new business, I mean this building a bulletproof empire stuff, the LLC, the branding, and getting the web address, I mean that’s all done within a matter of a day, and for incredibly inexpensively.
And of course that’s why now we put all that information into the Academy, so we can tell you and teach you the stuff that we wish we had known five years ago so that we wouldn’t have spend four or five months over silly little details and gotten overwhelmed, and we could have had it all done in a day or two and moved on to making money.

So you definitely don’t need to be overwhelmed by these details that we’re bringing up. It can be incredibly broken down and the decisions can be made very quickly.

Alright, so that’s kind of step number four of the online business blueprint to building a bulletproof online empire; the team, and the brand, and your business entity, and all those things.

So step number five in the online business blueprint is to launch a far reaching Web 2.0 presence. Now that you know what your brand is, you know what your niche is, you know what kind of market you want to reach, you have a sense of what it is that they want, and how you can offer that to them in an unique way that’s going to position you strongly in your market which is all stuff that you’ve done in step two and step four of this whole process.

Now it’s time to put your presence out there, and this is a process that we’ve seen work again, and again, and again. I was just talking actually over the weekend to a friend of mine who’s interested in this whole internet business thing, and she was kind of saying a few of the ideas that she had. She’s like, “Well how do I get people to listen to me? How do I even get people to care that I have this expertise?”

I’m like look, this is something I’ve done multiple, multiple times since being involved in my own businesses, being branded as an expert in real estate investing and becoming the president of the investing association in Salt Lake City, and then becoming branded as a marketing expert for real estate investors, then becoming branded as a podcasting expert, then becoming branded as a business expert.

So thinking back over every one of these times I’m like look, the same thing…it was the same process every time. I just started offering relevant, compelling, valuable content and putting it in a place where my market…putting it in as many places as possible that my market could find it. And so you start out by creating kind of a hub for this presence, for the brand that you’re going to create.

And so many businesses misunderstand the purpose of a website. We’re not just talking about putting up a static yellow page online ad which is a ’1995 website’. If that’s what you’re doing, you’re going to be left in the dust. The internet landscape is changing rapidly, and is already left you behind in the last few years. If that’s what you’re doing with your website, then you need to put on your stonewashed jeans and your Kurt Cobain grunge era flannel because you’re still stuck in the 90′s.

The internet has changed incredible since then, so we’re talking about having the kind of presence that can then reach out and be preeminent and everywhere people look for you, whether it’s in Google, or whether it’s in social networks, or whether it’s on Youtube, or in iTunes, you’re showing up with valuable content that immediately gets their attention and starts building trust from the first moment that they hear your voice or read your articles or whatever the case might be.

And so you need to be able to launch quickly this kind of Web 2.0 presence, it’s all about preeminence and giving your audience the information that they want in the way that they want it, and far reaching means showing up in as many places as possible.

Sterling: Yeah, when I see a static site that was made like two years ago and has never been updated, or even a catalog site with a bunch of products, but no updates or customer interaction built in, I just cringe. It’s amazing to see what’s out there, and also waiting months or even week or whatever for that matter to have Google find and rank your site is completely a thing of the past.

But you have to completely do very specific things to make sure you get the natural ranking, so that those pesky little Google bot spiders can actually find your site. And of course we go very in depth on that in the Academy, and I just keep thinking I’ve just talked to a girl at one of the Meetup groups I go to, and she was talking about how she just paid $7,000 to have a site done for her.

Jay: Ouch, ouch!

Sterling: Yeah, it was basically a catalog site, and I said, “Oh, so do you have it so that you can do updates and blogs,” and she’s like, “No, I have to call the guy and say, ‘Hey can you do this?’ and he does it when he gets around to it,” and I’m just thinking oh, that’s so painful to hear something like that, $7,000! And I’m thinking oh yeah, I mean our people can get a site up and going for a couple hundred bucks at the most.

Jay: Yeah, not even that. I mean we’re talking….

Sterling: Yeah, if they bought the whole year of hosting, it would still be under $200, so it’s interesting to see what people are out there doing when they just don’t know.

Jay: Yeah, I mean that $7,000, who knows what she was paying for? It’s frustrating and painful to think about. You need a solid platform that’s easy for you to maintain the website, it’s easy for you to post regular content because again, that’s how you’re going to brand yourself as an expert – is to post regular, relevant, compelling content to a platform that can then get that content out to many different places.
And so we use the blogging platform WordPress that we’ve talked about many times on the show. And so with a system that we’ve put together, you can launch a Web 2.0 ready site with the hosting that we recommend, with WordPress, and you can have that up in a matter of a day. We show you how to go and get quality themes that are well designed, have great premium features, are search engine friendly, highly interaction that keep people around interacting with you on the site.

And so like you said, for a hundred to two hundred dollars, you can launch this – not $7,000, not waiting a month or two months for this person to get behind schedule and finally get your design and your site up. It is up and going in a matter of a day or two at most. And that’s probably only spending and hour or two each of those days doing a few things, or even outsourcing it for really cheaply.

It does not have to be a big deal to get this Web 2.0 search engine friendly presence up in a very quick way. So the recommendation is to use WordPress which you can find at WordPress.org, put down on a dependable host, and then go out and find quality themes. And this is all stuff…in fact if you look at our Toolbox page at InternetBusinessMastery.com, we point you to a lot of these things as well.

And as far as how to set it up and configure it in the exact way that we’ve laid out and figured out is what works best, I mean this is a process of using WordPress over several years now. We’ve got a series of videos that will show you exactly how to install, and exactly how to set it up so that you can have this website out quickly. It makes it easy to publish content to a blog, it gives you a RSS feed which is the glue that makes Web 2.0 possible.

We’ll get your content our there and in Google very, very quickly. It’s easy to integrate audio and video which that kind of multimedia is a must these days, and very, very compelling. And so this series of videos in the Academy will show you step-by-step exactly that site launch process. But if you’re listening to this and just wanting to get started very quickly definitely check out the Toolbox pages as well at InternetBusinessMastery.com and that will point you to WordPress and to these themes, and hosting, and a few other things like that that we have mentioned here in this segment.

Sterling: Yeah, and I think you actually did the videos for the setting up WordPress, and there were like 25 or something really quick videos showing exactly how to do it. It’s just over 25 isn’t it?

Jay: Yeah, we broke it down, like whatever specific piece…like if you want help with creating a new category, it’s like kaboom, you just go straight to that video and in a few minutes see how it’s done. If you want to know how to make your URL’s more search engine friendly, you just go kaboom, to this one video and in a few minutes see how it’s done, or if you’re starting from scratch you can watch them and they’re in step one, step two, step three, step four format so you can jump to any point in that process quickly, and have this site up and launched.

And within a matter of days be producing content, and then within a matter of days after that see it showing up in Google, and then in a matter of days after that see traffic start coming to your site. So it’s very incredibly powerful, and again, we’ve seen this work over and over again, and that’s why we recommend it to the listeners who hear the podcast is because…it’s amazing, we’re just sitting here talking about blogging platform or WordPress, but it’s amazing actually some of the sites that you wouldn’t even know, I mean big, big sites like The New York Times has used WordPress in parts of their site.

We’re talking this is a very powerful piece of software that’s offered for free out there that has a really strong community behind it that develops it and all kinds of themes for making it look the way you want, and all kinds of plugins for customizing it. And of course you can get lost very quickly going through all these themes, and plugins, and that’s why we’ve broken it down to a process where it’s like okay, get this installed, use this set of plugins this way, get it configured that way, go here, get one of these themes, kaboom you’re set.

Your site is every bit as powerful and as strong as the one we’ve got for Internet Business Mastery, and off you go. And that’s the kind of site that works in this Web 2.0 era, and the kind that will get your branded as an expert very quickly with the content that you create.

Sterling: It actually kind of reminds me of when we first started doing this internet business stuff, and we would create little videos for each other about how we learned some little thing so that we didn’t have to explain it over the phone and go, “Now see this box up here?” When I was watching it I was like, “Hey he made me this video a few years back!” So it’s pretty cool because again, it’s almost like we just show you exactly rather than trying to figure that stuff out.

Jay: So if you’re at the point of this step five in online business blueprint, if you’re at that point of wanting that far reaching Web 2.0 presence launched fast, again go to InternetBusinessMastery.com, click on the Toolbox link, and the Nav Bar you’re going to see a bunch of resources there that I’ve talked about, and that we’ve discussed.

Or if you’re ready to dive in and get the step-by-step tutorials, and just see this video series that we’ve been talking about, then you can go to FreeAudioGift.com to find out how you can get a risk free trial to the Academy. And again, this is going back…this is giving you the stuff that we wish as we think back to four or five years ago, we wish we’d known this stuff and had it laid out so that it didn’t take months and months and months.

I can remember when I installed my first WordPress…in fact, I didn’t even know about WordPress, I even remember when I tried to put up my first site and it was just painful. So this makes it so much easier to go through that process. So you can go to FreeAudioGift.com if you’d like to, and you know what? Look, the price, even if you join the Academy for one month just to see those videos, like thing about the price tag that Sterling just mentioned, $7,000…there’s no reason to spend that kind of money. And there’s no reason to agonize for two months getting your site up.

Sterling: And you know, I felt bad, I didn’t want to tell her, “Um, I can show you how to do it for nothing…WordPress!”

Jay: It’s like look, pay $97.00 for a month of the Academy, then go sign up for the host that we recommend, and then go get one of the themes that we recommend. And again, less than $200, you’re off and running. I guess take your pick. If you’ve got seven hundred grand, oh I’m sorry, seven grand burning a hole in your pocket, then by all means.

But I’d rather you sign up for the Academy, and then hey let’s go on a trip together. Let’s go to Fiji, call me up. Alright, so that’s steps four and five of the online business blueprint. And again we’ll continue this series through another episode or two of Internet Business Mastery, but we want to go through this whole eleven step process. This is the latest greatest starting from scratch, to getting money in your pocket online, the process that we prescribe and teach that we’re going through in this series.

So definitely come back next episode for part three of the online business blueprint. Alright, for the announcement we just want to share a couple more success stories or breakthroughs from the Internet Business Mastery community. These are coming to you from the mastermind community inside of the Academy. And so Sterling, why don’t you go ahead and tell us about Mark Mohammad’s big recent breakthrough.

Sterling: Alright, well here’s what Mark said, “Hi everyone. Just wanted to share. Today after tons of search engine optimization madness, I am in third position on Google for one of my most competitive keywords. There are 2.4 million competing pages for the keyword phrase, and I am number three. It’s a really good feeling.” And we congratulate you on that, that’s the kind of stuff that happens when you don’t use those static sites and pay $7,000 for somebody to create a site that is not WordPress. Okay, so you can check out Mark’s page at PearlsInTime.com.

Jay: Alright, and the other success story comes from Patrick Flynn who you might remember we interviewed a little while back, and this was just such a great little blurb. I know we’ve given Patrick some “face time” here already on the podcast, but this was just really cool. This is something we’ve been talking about in our own business, just looking for those little easy…we’ve been calling it the ‘easy found money,’ just things you can do by just adding one little thing or changing one little thing and all of a sudden your conversions go up, or your sales go up, or you get increased income.

And so it’s so awesome to hear about these kinds of things. Anyway here’s what Patrick says, he says, “I also launched an audio guide last month and can now see the impact it has had on my earnings.” I guess I should remind everyone that he’s doing the lead testing, which is a type of green building green architecture or something, sustainable kind of practices he’s teaching people have to study for and pass this particular test they have to take.

So he’s been selling an e-book, and doing incredibly well with that. So he says last month he launched an audio guide of the version. He said, “Before the launch, I was averaging about $350 a day with just an e-book. Now with an e-book plus the audio guide combo, I average $750-$800 a day. I had a record day of sales last week selling about $1,200 of material and the funny part was, I was on my bachelor party trip in Lake Tahoe.”

So of course yeah, he mentioned, I remember that he was getting married soon. So he is as of the recording of this, and everyone hearing this, he got married. So congratulations on that as well Patrick. He says, “Lastly, I’m getting married February 21st, so that’s probably the biggest thing that will happen to me in my life this month, thanks again to Sterling and Jay for the wonderful tips and of course material to optimize the design of my lifestyle.”

So you can find Patrick at InTheLeed.com, so congrats on the increased income and on the marriage as well!

Sterling: Oh, and look at this. Yeah, this is crazy! Like when Patrick actually met the little mastermind group here in San Diego, and I remember he was so excited, even at the $350 a day mark. Now of course, now who wouldn’t be? He was just so excited, and now he’s had a $1,200 day. And that’s just so funny! I can just see him being so excited about that because he was very obviously happy about that when we talked a few months ago.

Jay: It’s the kind of business where he goes on his bachelor party, and then probably on his honeymoon, definitely on his honeymoon too and then keeps making money. He gets to go on these trips, and his website keeps making money. His biggest selling day and it was while he was in Lake Tahoe, so that’s a pretty cool story.

Sterling: Ah, the lifestyle design.

Jay: Yeah, absolutely. Thanks everyone who shares their great breakthroughs, either on the blog or on the mastermind community, and in the Academy. We love hearing those stories and sharing them with the whole community. So definitely keep those coming.

It’s time for the Internet Business Quick Tip….

Jay: Alright, in the last episode of Internet Business Mastery, we gave you a Quick Tip about Amazon S3, which is a great hosting where you can stick your media, and have very quick delivery, and downloads, and dependable access for media. We gave several reasons why we use that for the Academy and some of our other media as well.

So on this episode’s Quick Tip, we wanted to give a great supplement to Amazon S3. You might be wondering well, if I host some media files on Amazon S3 and folders and stuff up there, and people are grabbing my videos, or audio, and things, how can I know what kinds of download numbers I’m getting, or bandwidth numbers I’m getting, and things like that?

Web hosting usually comes with those kinds of statistics whereas Amazon S3 out of the box doesn’t provide that for you. However, there is a very cool service and it’s extremely cheap and it’s a whole whopping $2.00 a month, and you can get web statistics that track’s your Amazon S3 numbers. It will give you download numbers and things like that.

In fact, this came in very handy recently where we tried putting certain things on our Amazon S3, and all of a sudden our bandwidth bill with Amazon S3 went way up, which is a good problem to have. It means a lot of people were grabbing this particular piece of content.

Sterling: Yeah, don’t put your podcast on Amazon S3.

Jay: If you’re as popular as Internet Business Mastery, yeah you’ve got to be careful about that. It can be…and now that we’ve moved that back over to Libson, but certainly for the Academy, people are paying to get a hold of that content. We want those videos and audios to be dependably being served to them, S3 works great. So the S3 stat was handy, I could go in there and verify, it was like okay, where is all this bandwidth hogging coming…like what is being downloaded so much?

And indeed it was the most recent…which again was very encouraging. It was like wow, I actually hadn’t looked at bandwidth numbers on our episodes for a little while, and it was like higher than ever. It was astronomical, and all of a sudden we get this bill from Amazon, and it was like holy cow!

But anyway, so if you want some statistics for your Amazon S3 hosting, go to S3Stat.com. I believe they give you a month free to try it out and then after that like I said, it’s a whole whopping $2.00 a month. They just automatically charge that through your Amazon account for you. And so that’s really handy. That allows us to go in and see what audios and videos are being consumed the most inside the Academy.

So very, very useful information, they use the Webalizer package of statistics which is very common, a lot of people have seen that on a lot of other hosts too. So it’s a good chance you’ll be familiar with the web stats package that they use to give you these statistics. So check out S3Stat.com, that is our Quick Tip and recommendation for this episode.
