So Jay, what’s been going on?
Jay: Well you know, I noticed something yesterday. I don’t know if you realized but Internet Business Mastery has been downloaded over a million times, in fact almost 1.2 million times now.
Sterling: Yeah, I love the idea of that. I mean this is such an awesome time in history that that can even happen! You and I have an idea and we go oh, let’s see what happens and over a million people listen to it. Like go okay, let’s see what you’ve got! Like that is so awesome!
Jay: Right, and I was also looking through some stats and it’s been…we’ve reached over 120 countries with the show as well. So that’s pretty darn cool, that of course our archives continue to be downloaded and the new episodes get downloaded but we’ve had 1.2 million people…and that’s listens, 1.2 million downloads but still that’s just a lot. That’s a lot of times that somebody has downloaded one of our episodes.
Sterling: Yeah that’s amazing.
Jay: Pretty encouraging and pretty cool to notice after we’ve just hit our 100th episode anniversary so to speak. So I guess here’s to the next million, and I think the U.N. has like 300 and some odd countries listed, like official countries recognized in the world or something. So I guess we’ve still got a couple hundred more countries we need to get our show into but bit by bit we’ll be working on it.
Sterling: Yeah and thanks for everybody that has listened and is listening now. Like that is so awesome that this can happen. Again, I’m always just fascinated with what’s happening in history now that we can even do this is crazy.
Jay: Absolutely. So one of the things that this whole journey has brought to us and we are here to bring to others is the idea of increased freedom. The last couple of episodes we talked about the pillars of happiness, one of which was freedom – freedom to spend your time the way you want, financial freedom, things like that. So you had the idea actually to do a series on different types of freedom and how our listeners can enjoy or bring about more of these types of freedom in their lives using online business.
So let’s go ahead and jump into part one of this series that we’ll be doing on and off over the next few months and let’s talk about freedom of time.
And now the featured segment…
Jay: Okay so in part one of this new freedom series that we’re going to visit from time to time is one of our favorite types of freedom and that is the freedom of time. The freedom to have control over our time, to spend our time the way we want, to spend more time doing the things that fulfill us. The interesting thing is I know a lot of people talk about making more money and Internet Business Mastery is about helping you start an internet business, it’s about helping you make money online and replace your income.
But I really think when people say hey, one of my top goals is to make more money, I think the thing they have in mind is increased freedom, increased choice, increased possibilities, increased flexibility, being less subject to their employment, to their work, to the factors around them that maybe dictate where they have to live or how they spend their time, how much of their week they’re at work and commuting, all these things that obviously time has a lot of constraints upon it and so certainly having the freedom to build your life in such a way that you have increased freedom of time is just going to lead to more happiness and freedom was one of our three pillars that we talked about in the last couple of episodes.
And so let’s talk first of all about some of the benefits of having freedom of time. We’ve got seven benefits here. Number one is that you can quit your job, we start with that one because I think we know that a lot of people who listen to our show want to quit their job and I can remember when I first graduated from college, started my employment in a nice ‘steady’ job as an engineer making good money, going to work every week for 40 hours. If I was still in employment now I think with the way the economy is these days, people are getting made to work 50-60 hour weeks which would just kill me and I remember it didn’t take long, I constantly had this feeling of man, time is not my own. I get home from work and immediately I was just like desperate to get every last minute of fulfillment out of the time I had in the evening.
And then when the evening started reaching an end I was like oh no, I’ve got to go to bed and when I wake up that means I’ve got to go to work. Or the worst part was like that Sunday evening dread, it was like oh here it comes, the work week again. I hated that feeling and that was one of the biggest reliefs that I can remember, the first Sunday after I quit my job back August 15, 2003 – my independence day. The first Sunday following that I can remember going wow, this is the coolest thing.
Tomorrow I don’t have to go anywhere. Now of course I knew I needed to work on my business but I was in charge of what I was going to do and I certainly didn’t have to get in the car and commute, I didn’t have to go and do work for someone else. It was up to me now how to spend my time and that was a wonderful sense of freedom that I had from that.
Sterling: Yeah, one aspect for me that definitely was nice was remembering how it was in my job as they were really illogical with time and in return wasted a lot of my time and I think felt like it was okay because they were paying me. But it was really hard for me because the problem was actually lack of strategy and planning but I would always kind of pay for it in terms of how my time was wasted or I’d have to make up for other people’s lack of understanding of strategy and planning.
And that was really, really hard for me, and like not being able to follow my own inner productive sense and strategy was just horrible for me, and always a problem. And the other thing was, I’m more of a late night person and I couldn’t work based on my own body clock and how productive I am at certain time and this kind of stuff. I couldn’t do that because I’ve got to be there at 7:30 in the morning, like being subject to be there when they want you to be there.
And again, another illogical things was I’d get there at 7:30 and more than likely we wouldn’t even start until 9:00 which would just aggravate me to no end and then at the last part of the day we would have to rush and struggle every single day and then they’d always go, “Oh, overtime!” And you’re more like required and you’re going to have to finish this today, and oh man that stuff would make me insane, and of course quitting my job was able to certainly release that.
Of course with internet business you can learn and grow and figure out better ways to use your time and be able to strategize better, and plan better, so that kind of stuff happens less and less. I mean that kind of stuff’s going to happen at first when you figure it all out, but you can actually make those decisions to not have it continue to happen which is why I love internet business.
Jay: So that’s benefit number one, you get to quit your job and choose something that is more under your control. And I should point out that after we get done with these benefits then we’re going to go into specifically five strategies for achieving freedom of time.
So number two is you get to make more money. Now it’s interesting, I think we think about okay, let’s just be able to sit back on the beach and not have to do much at all and that’s fine, maybe that’s what people want. I think in the end we all have some kind of sense of purpose we want to be able to fulfill with our time. And most people I know in internet business even as they do work less and less, they still don’t necessarily go down to zero because they still like being actively participating in something that fulfills them and adds to the world and people around them.
But the nice thing is that you get to make more money as you do this. And even though…there’s this interesting paradox is even though we work less now than we did before as employees when we worked forty and sometimes fifty and sixty-hour weeks, I mean right now we’re at about thirty. We’ve been as little as twenty and we make more money now than when we worked twice as much time back then and so that’s a nice little…breaking free of that is important thinking.
It’s like well the only way to make more money is to work more time, yeah that’s what your employer wants you to think, that’s what your clients want you to think, that’s what the world wants you to think but the truth is that the less we work now, even though we work less now, we make more money.
Sterling: Well and that’s because of being more productive and more specific about what activities are going to make the most amount of money and so the fact that we have that choice is awesome. And of course with internet business, if we want to use our time to generate a new income stream or launch a new product, we can use our time to do that.
And before if we want to make more time so that we can get more possibilities, we don’t have to choose overtime or work a part time job on the weekend or something like we would have had to do if we had a regular job. Now we can actually plan out how to use the time to make money. We can then plan it, automate it, and then with the extra time that we have free because we planned and automated, we can now have more time to choose to do a new plan that will make even more money, and then automate that, and then just repeat.
And that just keeps happening, we’ve got our membership site that there’s a certain level of automation with that where it makes money; that frees up more time to do other things that could generate more income and more fulfillment. I mean it’s amazing, it’s just one of those things internet business can help you achieve if that’s your goal and that’s one of the business models that actually works that way.
Jay: Now I think a lot of people when we say freedom of time, they probably are thinking yeah, I’d like to work less than 40 hours a week, or maybe some people out there in a job where they’re like, “Oh man, I’d just like to work 40 and not have to work 60 or 70…” I mean I’ve got friends who work 60, 70, 80 hours and I see how miserable it makes them and we just mentioned a little while ago that with Internet Business Mastery, we have been down to where we work as little as 20 hours.
And then sometimes we kick it back up because we go into a growth mode or our sense of purpose kicks in and we’re like you know what, we’d really like to be able to offer this kind of a thing, that would be really cool to do and hence make more money and grow and reach more people, and have more of an impact. And so we kick it back up but it’s completely our choice, we can work as little as 20 hours and I imagine there may come a time where it’s less than that.
At some point I mean my wife and I haven’t started having kids yet so I look forward to a time where it’s like well hey, when we have our first kid, maybe I’ll be able to back it back down to 20 or 10 hours for a while so I can help in that whole process. And so it’s been as little as 20, right now it’s 30 for us and it could be even less if you wanted but you have that choice dependant on how much you want to grow, what’s your lifestyle desires are, what kind of income are you looking for.
Sterling: Yeah and definitely one of the ways to achieve those goals like we said is automating and outsourcing which of course internet business, it’s a major factor of it. But like you were kind of saying too about the whole fulfillment thing, maybe 20 hours a week is too little if you get real great fulfillment out of the things that you’re doing with your time. So I mean that’s part of the kicking up the hours is as we’re going hey, do we want to do a couple of these things we really enjoy like teaching, and inspiring, and this kind of stuff and to create this next level, we’re going to have to kick up the time to be able to do it.
But again it’s chosen so it’s not like you have to, it’s like okay, well we want what comes of it. That includes fulfillment, and money, and different things that and we’re going to love doing it and that’s just one of the great things that happens with online businesses is that you get to choose what your time goal is.
Jay: Number four is that you end up more productive with your time which really I guess the benefits should be you end up being more fulfilled because you’re getting more done. I think we all like to feel like we’re achieving something, we’re successful, we’re moving towards something and so the more we can get done in a certain amount of time rather than feeling like time’s always getting away from us or oh man, there’s only 24 hours…how often have we heard somebody say man, if there were only 48 hours in a day, or 8 days in a week….
And the funny thing is when going back to employee again, it could be 40 or 50-hour weeks, when I first started my business I was working 60+ hours a week. Now it didn’t need to be that way, I mean now I know a lot different and this is what we teach because it doesn’t need to be that way. Because I would spend time and then the funny thing is because I was still in an employee mentality, it was more about passing the time and that how much time I worked equaled achievement rather than how much I actually got done equaled achievement and success.
And thank goodness that’s a lesson I’ve learned now because even though now at the present time of us recording this I work about 30 hours a week, I would say I get twice as much done even though I’m working half as many hours and that equates to twice as much fulfillment for me because at the end of the day I know I got the three things done that I wanted to get done most. I’ve got to do the things that are really my passion and unique ability that deliver the most value to others and bring the most happiness to me. And so it’s not about quantity of time, it’s this quality of time; you’re more productive and fulfilled by the time that you do spend.
Sterling: Yeah productivity is massively important because being able to use your time wisely leads you to be able do the stuff that is most fulfilling for you. And of course you outsource and automate the rest, and this particular subject right here is so important that we’re actually looking to make our next product about this, about how to be really productive and how to basically bend time.
Jay: Nice, bending time…
Sterling: Bending time…
Jay: Super powers and we’re going to share them with you.
Sterling: Reality bending is what a friend of mine and I call it. And then one job I had actually told me to be less productive, I was thinking to myself, why is it taking 6 weeks to do these projects? And I did one in I don’t know what it was, 3 ½ or 4 weeks and the other workers almost attacked me, they did verbally going, “What are you insane? Why are you doing this?” And they told me that, “We can’t do it because if there’s a problem then we look bad.”
All they could do was sit there and try to make it so that I wouldn’t be productive, and at first it was like gosh, this isn’t even logical but actually when I realized it, like I realized what they were saying and stuff, I was going okay, well this system is actually designed that if you are more productive and then one time if something happens that doesn’t let you be as productive, that’s out of your hands, you’re actually blamed for it.
So it kind of just because this vicious circle where if you were more productive, you would actually kind of like lose points later. It’s just so weird how different employment have these weird things that happen whereas in our business the more productive we are, the more time we have to go do other things or spend more time on things that fulfill us. I mean that’s what’s so awesome about internet business.
Jay: Yeah, it’s a completely broken system and society has taught us just these weird illogical things about how we spend our time and how we get our fulfillment. And so number five, I guess this is kind of a repeat, it’s more fulfillment with your time. I mean the more productive we are, the more concentrated we are with what we get done in the time, the more we are able to concentrate on doing the things that are more important to us.
Because again, we have control of our time, we have this freedom of time, and the more fulfillment you’re going to get out of your time. We love internet business because there’s so many possibilities within the internet, we just talked earlier in this episode about how we’ve reached the point of 1.2 million downloads, I mean it’s a fantastic time where we were able to say what is it that we’re most passionate about?
What is it that fulfills us most? And that is the question that we ask when we started doing this show and it was like, well we like talking to people about internet business and how it can change their life. And so that’s what we did was we started a business, we started a show geared all around that. And we were at a coaching meeting recently where everybody kind of wrote down a list of all the different activities that they do throughout their day, like for us everything from like recording the podcast like we’re doing right now, or managing our Virtual Assistants and our team members, or all the way down to having to review finances and pay bills.
I mean whether you’re an employee or self-employed right now or whatever, there’s all these different activities that take up your day and then in this process we broke it down into the things that we really felt are our unique ability, that we’re really good at them, they come to us naturally, we get the best results when we do them, we’re passionate about it, we’re always growing and seeking opportunities to do it.
And then those things that we’re like we’re good at but we don’t particularly have a passion at it, but people depend on us because we happen to be good at it. And then those things it’s like well we’re competent, we can get it done, but we really don’t like doing it. And we get just basic minimal standard results at it, and then those things we’re completely incompetent at that we end up doing just for whatever reason but we really have no business doing. We don’t have any passion and we don’t get any results but we do it for whatever reason.
And it was very revealing to see that breakdown of all the different activities in the four different areas. And then we asked ourselves what percentage of time do we think we spend doing those things that are called the unique ability, the things we’re the most passionate and get the best results out of? And we felt very fortunate to be able to come up with numbers like 40% or 50% because we’ve built a business that allows us to spend that much time but really if you were to look at most people today, it’s anywhere between 0%, I’m sure plenty of people at 0% to 10%, maybe 20% if you’re lucky.
So we felt really good to be able to write down 50% and some of these people were setting a goal from a year from now and the best they could hope for in the position that they created for themselves where there’s an employee or as a self-employed person was like well, I hope I can get to 40% in a year. And we’re looking at it going, well with just a few things because we have this freedom of how we use our time and we could outsource, we could get to the point where we’re spending 80% plus of our time on the thing that we’re best at, on the thing that makes us the happiest and delivers the most value to others.
And that’s just an exciting way to live your life, and so when you have this freedom of time, you can start gearing it towards that. You get more fulfillment, again it’s a quality of time type thing that comes back to you from it.
Sterling: Yeah, the idea of being able to use your ‘work time’ to be more happy and fulfilled is something I was never taught. And actually it’s become a mission for us to teach that even in this bad economy. Like the fact our business does fantastically in an economy that’s considered bad and oh, all these bad things are happening. When you have a mission to teach people something that basically leads to more happiness and fulfillment which money can be a part of that and certainly is if you do it correctly.
But I was actually more taught one of a couple of ways. Basically to find a job that doesn’t annoy me too much, that might have good benefits, or hopefully they’re take care of me. Or I actually was actually kind of taught through let’s say media, or movies and stuff, to find a job that other people might be a little envious about, like I could kind of feel good about that. And that’s what doing the film work was, like people would go, “Oh wow! You work in Hollywood?”
And I was going, oh yeah! I got to feel a little bit cool because of that but really they didn’t realize that it was 16 hours a day of like trench work. It could be very, very grinding but those were the only couple of things I knew to do and you know of course with internet business, we’ve been able to constantly grow and focus more and more on what makes us happy and fulfilled, and that’s just amazing.
Jay: Yeah, it’s funny you say that. I mean yeah, when you think about what society teaches us to value and how we spend our work time, it is – it’s how much money can you make, how good are the benefits, how much recognition do you get out of it, meaning people are impressed by what you do where it’s like, “Ooh, you’re a doctor, oh a lawyer!” or whatever. And I thought I had my ideal job, I mean I was thinking okay, well I’m going to be an engineer because I can make good pay and it will a stable job and I should be able to usually be able to get good benefits and find some kind of good employment with that kind of a degree.
But I do want to fulfill me so I’m going to try to combine that with music because I was a musician at the time. Well I’m still a musician, it’s a passion that I had so I ended up being an engineer who made gear, made these cool little pedals and things that people would use in the studio, that guitars would use in the studio and on stage to make the cool sounds if you think of like The Edge from U2, he makes those cool sounds. I designed that kind of gear and yeah, it was pretty cool because I was in a band, I’d talk to all my buddies in the band and other bands that we’d play with and when we told them oh yeah, I worked for Digitech and yeah this pedal, that pedal you’re using there, I helped design that thing. Or yeah, my pedals that I’ve helped design are used by Grammy award winning, like Incubus and people who’ve won awards for their albums and their music.
I mean yeah, but the funny thing is it didn’t take long for all of that to wear off because in the end it wasn’t really based on what fulfilled me most, just having that bit of recognition and even though it’s like oh, as long as it has to do with music I wasn’t really digging into like what is it about music that fulfills me or why do I enjoy doing this? And the funny thing is because you and I we’ve mentioned in recent episodes this recent idea of unique ability and we’ve been doing more and more thinking into what it is that is our unique ability.
And now I can see why I never was…why engineering was never going to make me happy really in the end. I was excellent at it but I didn’t have any particular passion and really what I’m good at is sharing knowledge and ideas to help others have increased freedom and have increased fulfillment in their life and making guitar pedals just wasn’t going to help me do that.
And so I didn’t feel this yearning, I felt guilty sometimes because I’d see some of my other co-workers who were like totally digging into learning the latest techniques in digital signal processing and they’d just do all this testing and just naturally remember all of the formulas and things and so I just felt guilty that I didn’t feel that drive to do it the way that they did like I really should if I’m going to be a good engineer.
And so that disconnect, that dissonance just ate at me over and over and over again, and now I can see again why it’s just like yeah, no wonder I wasn’t driven to naturally learn and want to do and so I ended up in this place where it’s like I’m just going to do enough to get my paycheck and go home at the end of the day. And society would have us believe well that’s the way it is, you do that – you pay your dues so that the rest of the time you can go have fun.
But we’re here to say like life should never be subordinate to work. Anyway, so number six is that you get to spend more time with the people that you want to spend time with. And I think that that’s something that a lot of people can relate with, if we’re thinking that we’d like to be able to quit our job and have more freedom and time, and only work 20 or 30 hours a week, it’s because maybe we have friends we want to spend more time with.
Maybe we want to go out and date more, maybe we have kids we want to spend more time with. Relationships was another one of these pillars of happiness that we put out there and so with the free time we want to spend more time with the people we want to spend time with.
Sterling: Yeah, and actually an example from today already. My sister actually called at the beginning of my first little two-hour work block this morning with an emergency and I was able to drop everything and totally assist her which definitely brought me a lot of fulfillment and all I was able to do is I moved that little two-hour work block to later this evening when I was going to be doing personal stuff anyway.
And of course with internet business I can do that, if my daughter has an orchestra thing in the middle day as I’ve mentioned before, I can move that work block. I can move it somewhere else and just shift things around based on other things that I want to do. I mean even when we were doing…I’ve had launch stuff going on, I was able to do 4-wheeling one day and just move the time around because I wanted to experience that not have to wait until Saturday or Sunday every single time. So just another thing that internet business gives the possibility for that I love.
Jay: And number seven, I think this is something that we probably made pretty clear with our other ones because they all kind of tie together but you get to decide what you do do with your work time. I mean again, we all want to have that sense of purpose, something that we’re contributing to and I now realize that I used to spend my time as an employee just doing things I was excellent at. I got results, but I wasn’t particularly passionate at, but now more and more I get to do the things I’m truly passionate about and that are my unique ability because I’ve created a situation with my time, a vehicle for my time, that allows me to do that and still make the money that I need to make.
Sterling: Yeah, and as it kind of sounds, it certainly relates more to interpersonal work like we’ve been talking about lately, like the self esteem book, or the strength finder book, or unique ability book. Going through them has helped me see what I’m best at and what I find fulfilling to do and so with the online business, I can actually design it so that it facilitates my using my top strengths and getting more fulfillment and happiness.
I mean I just love it; it’s amazing that this is possible and it actually gives you the ability to decide when to play too. So you can also decide when your play time is, if you want to be out during the day and you want to work later at night, that’s a choice too. That’s another thing that you can decide when your work time is.
Jay: Okay, so now that we’ve gone over these benefits and hopefully you’re relating with some of these things, I mean we think that it’s likely that the listeners of this show do because we’ve seen it in the surveys that we’ve put out there. How can we achieve this, how can we achieve more freedom of time? And one of the most important things that we need to do is first we need to increase the value of our time.
That’s something again that society and school doesn’t teach us very much and if anything we just value our time and like okay, I’m an engineer, I made $25 an hour. Or I work at 7-eleven, I’m worth $6 and hour and there’s not just a whole lot of leverage and power because as an employee essentially what you’re doing is you’re wholesaling your time to others. You’ve got this certain amount of time in a day and you’re saying, “I’ll give you eight hours of my time for ‘x’ amount per hour.” And we wanted to get that…you need to find a vehicle for your time that’s worth far more than $6 an hour, far more than $10 or $20 or $25 an hour.
You want to get to the point where it’s $50, $75, $100, $150 and I think at the last strategy meeting that we had at the beginning of this year, we’re to the point where we’re like you know what, if something’s not worth at least $350 an hour, more likely $500, we just don’t want to spend time doing it. But when I first quit my job I set a goal for myself, I was like okay, I was making $25-$30 an hour as an engineer, now what I want the next step is I’ve got to make a business that makes my time worth $50 an hour.
So that whatever I do I can work less and make more money and that’s where the power and the leverage comes in. And one of the first things I started doing was consulting and when I first started consulting, I think I started charging like $75 an hour. And this is something that a lot of people will do is they undervalue what it is that they have to offer and they’re afraid to ask for what they’re worth and right away when my wife heard that, my wife’s been a great coach for me through these things, she said, “$75, I don’t know that that really sounds like it’s what you’re worth, how about you try raising that?”
And I was resistant for whatever reason, just little personal beliefs about myself, just being timid. But she finally talked me into okay, the next time somebody comes along, offer them $90 an hour and see what they say. And the next person that came along, it was $110 and then $125 and I kept doing that and nobody ever balked at it and then it got up to where it was $150 an hour.
And what that did was it took me out of the employee mentality, and this is from a book called “Cash Flow Quadrant.” The employee mentality where we’re dollars for hours at a very low wholesale rate, the $6, $10, $25 an hour, and then a good bridge is to get into the self-employed where you’re consulting or helping people on a coaching or a professional…or what we think of as a professional – the accountants, the doctors, but on that…where your dollars for hours is hopefully worth more – $50, $75, $150 an hour.
And then eventually you want to get it into what we call a business quadrant where you make money even when you’re not spending time. It’s not just dollars for hours, the money comes in, the quintessential overnight money coming in. Okay, so there you go. That’s seven benefits, what we’re hoping to get out of this freedom of time, where freedom of time will bring to you. And like we promised earlier, we want to get into now some how you can actually achieve that, and we have some very specific and important strategies for you to start adopting and some of these you maybe already have which is great.
We want to give you at least a couple of additional ones that you can start adopting to bring increased freedom of time into your life and your business. We’re noticing that we’re going a little bit long here, in fact we’ve already been talking for a good twenty or so minutes just in this segment, so we’re going to split this one up into a two-parter. I think those 1.2 million downloads we’ve had, I think one thing people have learned probably about us Sterling is that when we get going about this stuff we’re passionate about, we can sure get talking.
But we don’t want to shortcut it by trying to rush through the rest of this episode. So we’re going to split it up into two parts, so next time we’ll do part two of the freedom of time and we will go through the specific strategies of how to get freedom of time now that we’ve defined that. So we will continue this discussion in the next episode.
Alright Sterling, I’ve got a really cool breakthrough to share today. This actually comes from one of the Traffic Attraction Formula students and this refers well to something we’re going to talk about in the next segment of this freedom of time and this idea of increasing the value of your time is one of the strategies we’re going to talk about and going from the employee mentality to how do we make it so that we’re making bigger chunks of money with each hour of time we spend working.
So this one comes from Charmaine…
Sterling: Now before you get into it, be safe Charmaine, we found we get a lot of emails saying when we talk about somebody in the episode, they say they almost drive off the road, so be safe. We said your name, it’s fine…keep your hands on the steering wheel, now we’re going to do it.
Jay: Well I know she works as a nurse and I think she will often listen on her breaks or when she’s walking around so hopefully she’s not like poking someone with a needle right now or something. So anyway, this is something we like to do in the Academy, we have the Breakthrough forum where we encourage people to share their breakthroughs, their milestones, the things that they get excited about and I did this for the Traffic Attraction Formula students as this is one that she shared recently just a couple modules in.
So all we’d done is talk about…gotten really specific about the personal brand that we wanted to build and who in the audience that we wanted to reach with that, and we’re just starting to get into creating content and things like that. So this is what she posted to the forum.
She said, “I got my first check as a marketing consultant today. I cried when I showed my fiancé this check because it makes it more real. Now I believe even more that I can make money and replace my income doing what I love and escape my job soon. It feels awesome holding this check because it’s the first tangible money I received since learning marketing. The universe gave me a sign I’m on the right path, I will scan it and frame it.”
Sterling: Awesome! Send in a picture with it too, that’d be awesome!
Jay: Yeah, we’d totally love to see if you scan that and frame it; we want to see the scan, that would be very cool. And this is a great thing that she’s done here, I mean we talk a lot about the importance of getting to a point of not working dollars for hours, but I think there’s a bridge point and again we’ll talk about this more next time where it’s like you know what, if you can get a big fat check for consulting or even just that first dollar or ten or fifty from an affiliate income, yeah it is, it buoys you up, it gives you that increased confidence.
It reinforces your self-esteem like we talked about in the last episode according to the definition we gave in the last episode about the results of the actions that you’re taking. So congratulations Charmaine, and thank you very much for sharing that with us.
It’s time for the Internet Business Quick Tip….
Jay: Alright, in this episode’s Quick Tip, we want to talk about how you can quickly get your site up even in as little as five minutes. And naturally in internet business, a website is an important piece of that puzzle. It can feel very overwhelming and I know a lot of people we’ve seen start getting into this and next thing they know they’re spending a couple thousand dollars having a site custom built or whatever.
And that’s just not necessary, we teach a very specific system in the Academy about using site hosting that’s really good but then you can install free software called WordPress on there and get your site launched and going for less than $100 and save yourself thousands in design bills and have it really end up not being as effective marketing wise in the end.
And so naturally one of the things, one of the recommendations that we give in this whole process is a good web host. People ask us, well what web hosting do you recommend? And actually for a few years there’s been a particular hosting we’ve recommended in the Academy and that recently has changed. In the Traffic Attraction Formula, I’ve changed to a different hosting that I’m recommending.
Not that the other hosting is bad now, but just that we feel like this one is just that much more streamlined, it uses an admin control panel that it’s a little more universal and we’re going to be incorporating this into the Academy coming up. So actually this is new information right here on this show even before it hits the Academy, but we have a brand new web host that makes it super, super easy.
We’re talking you go there, you sign up, you choose your web domain which is your web address, you sign up and pay for your year in advance which it’s less than $100 for it and then in like a matter of a couple clicks bam, your site is installed with the latest version of WordPress with their latest theme, it’s a great looking theme that’s just easy to customize and start getting your site going.
So the new hosting that we recommend, you can find by going to www.getourhosting.com and that will forward you over there and they just have one simple plan that they offer so you can get signed up for that plan if you’re thinking about starting a new site. This is the hosting that we highly recommend, and they’ve got great tutorials, quick starts on there, and you can go immediately to their tutorial about how to install WordPress and we’re talking…I mean, I’m saying in less than five minutes, maybe it ends up taking you 10 or 15, but that sure beats weeks and weeks, and thousands of dollars of having to go find a web host and get everything worked out. So that’s highly recommended for sure.
Sterling: And I actually…I didn’t even realize that it was that easy and with a new project I’ve been working on, I got it all turned on and all that and then had my V.A. install WordPress…like I didn’t realize I could have clicked three buttons and not had to go through the old process of setting everything up. Right now I’m kicking myself because I just didn’t realize it was as easy.
Jay: Well I’ll have to send you my new videos from the Traffic Attraction Formula which again will be posted to the Academy very, very soon. So yeah, next time you’ve got a site Sterling, I’ve got a couple of videos you can check out; make it a lot easier on you.
