@CC,

These are question for your lawyer and accountant. In the end, you have to consult with them because I don't give professional advice on these matters.

The decision of which point you start an LLC is a personal one. I start my LLC before I make the first dollar personally. Also, I would never try to "get away with" not filing taxes. You always file.

Again, consult your lawyer and accountant.

Also, keep listening to our show and you will be making much more than that per year :).

I think that your site is wonderful and very informative. Thank you
for making this available for people like myself who want a successful
Internet business.

Question regarding the show-
Should I create a LLC for my website if my site makes under
$3500/year? Also, can I get away with not filing taxes if my site makes less
than $3500/year?

Thank you for your time!

Steve,

One issue I can think of is that although having an LLC helps protect your personal assets from your business activities, all of your assets from your different businesses would be exposed to each other's liabilities. All of the businesses would basically be seen as one legally and tax-wise.

You have to ask yourself if there is reason to keep them separate legally and for financial reasons.

As always, its best to ask an attorney to be certain.

Great info about the wisdom of protecting your business with a LLC! One question I have . . . . is it possible (or advisable) to bring two or three different businesses under the umbrella of one LLC? I have more than one business that I operate part-time, and am thinking about forming a LLC for the main reason that I am concerned about the liability issues. Can all of these businesses be operated under one LLC? I'm not sure I want to go to the expense and time of setting up a separate LLC for each one. Thanks!

Greg,

I have no experience with these services so I really can't suggest either way. I imagine the documents they set up for you are fine. Where you might not get any help is with any specific or ongoing education about maintaining your LLC.

If you give it a try, please report back to us.

What is your take on the online LLC creation companies that do all the paperwork for you? I have been browsing over www.mynewcompany.com and www.cororate.com in particular. Their rates seem reasonable but you had talked about the protection in "setting things up the right way" and was wondering if you think these services would cover all the bases? Thanks, love the podcast by the way!
