    Mark,

Site maps are very important for search engine optimization. It’s an easy way to give a search engine crawler quick access to every page on your site.

There’s also a protocol for creating and submitting an XML file to Google for notifying them of new updates to your site. This is one reason I love using WordPress blogs on my sites–there’s a plugin that auto-generates a site map XML file and pings Google each time I post.

    Hi Sterling and Jay,

Just want to say that your program is great! Ever since I started listening to your podcasts (chapter 10 – Common Fears on Going into Business and How to Overcome Them), I learned a lot and implemented most of what you’ve taught on your show.

I’ve been running a virtual assistant business for over 8 years now, but only when I started listening to your podcasts that I decided to put my presence online. Although this is not exactly the kind of internet business you’ve been teaching (passive vs. active income generation), the principles were so effective for me nonetheless and had a great impact in my endeavor, specially in terms of better client retention and increase in the number of projects received. I’m also starting a couple of new websites that will help me generate more passive income (long tail theory) so I’m very excited with this, thanks to you guys.

I was just listening to chapter 24 yesterday (7 Pillars of Web 2.0, part 1), and I remember Jay mentioning something about his contemplation on hiring a virtual assistant. As a virtual assistant myself, If you would like to know more about how our business operates or hire our services, please feel free to visit our website (www.distantsupport.com), or email or call me anytime.

Thank you very much, and more power to your program!

    Best regards,
    Gabs

Listening to the episode about “INTERNET MARKETING 2.0” I got to thinking – could you discuss the balance of give and take in user-generated content? I see myself as purely taking content from sites like yours, but I don’t have a blog of my own. What incentive do people have to give content? What ways are people giving to the community by the choices they make in the content they take?

    Mason,

That’s a very interesting topic you bring up. There will always be many “lurkers” on a site that just visit and benefit from the content. What any community needs to look for are the percentage of visitors/listeners who want to contribute. Really encourage those people. Even with a small percentage of contributors, some very interesting things can happen. It’s been the same with online message boards for years.

We’ll consider doing an episode on that in the future.

A great big thank you for commenting on Virtual Assistants (VA). I have also found many entrepreneurs can feel reluctant to outsource to a VA, it seems easier to do things (sometimes everything!) themselves.
I wanted to stress that because we work virtually, we should be internet savvy. I’ve been researching the industry and internet marketing for over 3yrs, and now listen to podcasts as much as possible, love them! Many of us have the experience/knowledge in building lists, newsletters, opt-in/unsubscribe needs, SEO, all the basics of marketing online, for that’s what we, as VAs, should all be doing already, with our own businesses.
So I say, find a VA that’s local, start out with a small project, see how it goes. I’m confident you’ll be pleased. Then, perhaps more infopreneurs too can..Work Less & Make More.

Thanks again Sterling and Jay, for all the valuable information you continue to provide to so many!
