This week I refreshed my time budget and it is already impacting my productivity for the better. I should really do it more often.
I came up with the time budget when I was tired of feeling like I wasn’t getting the most important things each week.
It’s tricky to balance the recurring tasks of your business week to week – things like content creation – with marketing and other massive actions that will grow your business.
So just like you might create a budget to carefully plan how you spend your money, you should also create a budget for your time.
The Payoff of Time Budgeting
This technique is one reason we’ve been able to reduce the amount of time that we each spend on Internet Business Mastery to twenty hours a week. We have to very deliberate about how that time is used.
One of the most dangerous time sucks in your day is the e-mail inbox. Better e-mail management is a surefire way to streamline your daily workflow and claim valuable time back.
One way I do this is by using the mouse as little as possible when I process my inbox. Learning a few hotkeys can speed things up greatly and remove friction from what can be a real time waster.
We’re big fans of using Roboform to securely store passwords, login to my myriad accounts and quickly fill forms. It’s a time-saving tool that I use every day of my life. I also buy it for all my virtual assistants.
Today Roboform got even more useful because I took the time to look up a few hotkeys. Here they are for your reference and use. Read the rest of this entry »
First off, I’m an On Time Freak. If I’m 2 minutes late to something I am very hard on myself. I try to be 5 minutes early if not more to anything I’ve committed to ahead of time, but being late is not an option. It’s very hard to be an On Time Freak, because most people are fine being late. It blows me away that this is the case being as I’m a freak about time, but it seems to be the norm to simply be 10 minutes or more late to everything.
It’s time for another video. In this one we show you how we use mindmaps to implement a system based on “Getting Things Done” (GTD) by David Allen. It uses free collaborative mindmapping tools making it useful for teams as well as individuals. It can also be implemented on an individual basis using desktop mindmapping software. You can watch the video in the flash player below (you may need to click through to the site). The resolution is high enough that you can click on the full screen icon to view it larger.

“I’ve been following your stuff for a while now and have largely improved what I have in my current day job — a full-time MD. Since I started thinking and applying stuff from your show. My annual gross has since gone up from about $130k to $216k.”
