How to Add a Picture Next to Your Blog Comments

by Jay (Jason Van Orden)

You may have noticed that the new version of our site displays a picture next to each comment on a post. The following video will show you how to have your own photo displayed to all of your comments.

We use a free service called Gravatar to display these photos. The really cool thing is that once you set your photo up, it will display any other WordPress blogs that use the Gravatar system.

This is becoming more and more common, especially on and blogs hosted on WordPress.com. We like putting faces to the names. It also adds a “community” feel to the site. So watch the video below and add your photo now!

Cool. By the way, what’s the deal with people using photos showing themselves talking on a phone? It’s epidemic on digg, so much so that I’ve forbidden myself from ‘friending’ anyone using said photo theme.

    Hey guys,

I haven’t been by in a while and am playing catchup with blog posts and podcasts, but just wanted to say the new site design looks great. I want to update one of my own blogs and give it a nice web 2.0 look, so I’ve been out there browsing for ideas, and there are lots of good ones here to mine. *takes out pick* I love the idea of letting users have a picture next to their comment among others.

Anyway, nothing big to say, just that the new site looks very professional. Good work, guys!

It makes the community more personal and
its fun to see who visits one’s site.

Thank you for this helpful info. After reading, I went straight to Gravatar, realised I could sign in because I was already a WordPress user, and added a pic. Great stuff!

I’m not sure if this is going to work for me. The gravatar site didnt seem to want to save my picture. Wonder if my file size is too big.

I think Gravatar is a very convenient tool.

But I’m wondering where you guys get the images that appear beside your blog and/or video posts. If you guys can help with this I’d greatly appreciate it.
