Business success comes in many forms for those who set goals, follow a plan and take action on a daily basis, while, many other who try and try but never taste success. Do you ever wonder what successful people do differently that achieves great results compared to people who go through their entire lives with just average results?
In fact it’s not just one thing, but many. You see, once you repeat the same behaviour many times over, it becomes a habit. Make success a habit and you are set for lifetime of wealth and prosperity. These habits, however, don’t form overnight. Constant practice and persistence eventually trains the brain to change and then it’s question of rinse and repeat.
So, what are these habits that leads many entrepreneurs on the path to success while many others fail?
Let’s explore the answer:
Habit #1: Successful entrepreneurs set measurable goals
This may sounds like one big cliche’ but this is one quality that can often be the difference between success and failure. After all we all have friends who talk about their resolutions at the start of every year, “this year I am going to lose a lot of weight”, “this year I am going to make a lot of money” and yet you will often find the same people telling you the exact same thing next year and the year after.
Why? It is simply because they do not set defined, measurable goals. What is the definition of “lot of money”? In a recent psychological study it was revealed that the human brain will simply not act on vague unmeasurable goals, which is what we commonly describe as procrastination.
Here is an effective strategy to help you set measurable goals. Imagine yourself already in possession of whatever you desire on a daily basis. Do it enough times and you will turn it into an achievable, measurable goal!
Habit #2: Successful entrepreneurs stay focused
Lack of focus is debilitating condition that will stop you from reaching your goals at all costs. If you are spreading yourself too thin by taking on (or dreaming about) too many things at once then the result will inevitably be failure. Successful entrepreneurs almost always take one opportunity from start to finish until they have achieved their goals.
I take the classic example of Mark Zuckerberg and even with all his success with Facebook, he has not explored the idea of starting another business. He still lives and breathes Facebook and you can see the results.
In a similar vein Tony Hseih dedicated 10 years in transforming zappos.com from a company turning over $0 in 1999 to $1,000,000,000 by 2008, eventually selling out to Amazon for billions more.
What is the secret here? Yep, you guessed it. Focus.
Ok great, but how do you stay focused? It’s simple, learn to say No! Saying no to every new opportunity that comes your way will increase your chances of success by helping you stay on track until you achieve your goals.
Habit #3: Successful entrepreneurs do not give up
This habit is closely related to the first habit of setting goals. Unless you set yourself a measurable goal, you are more likely to accept failure very quickly as you did not know what you were setting out to achieve at the first place. Set yourself a measurable goal and you will learn to dismiss failure, learn from it and get back on track to achieve your goals.
We have all heard of the famous example of one the most popular and best selling books of all time, Jack Canfield’s “chicken soup for the soul”, which was rejected by 20 different publishers before being accepted to become one of highest grossing publications in history.
The lesson: every failure brings you closer to success.
Habit #4: Successful entrepreneurs network
I’m sure you have heard of the famous phrase, “your network is your net worth” and nowhere this is more true than in business. Of course you can stay at home, do your thing and make money but if you truly want massive success, then you ought to network!
I recently attended a business mastery workshop and was happy to share my internet marketing knowledge around through questions and answers. What did this do for me? I received thousands of dollars worth of joint venture offers from several business owners who wanted to consult with me as I was seen as an expert in my field.
Of course, I could have chosen not to network and just continue on with what I was doing on a daily basis and I would have never know that these profitable opportunities ever existed.
Habit #5: Successful entrepreneurs know how to make money
Not all entrepreneurs know how to make money. It’s easy enough to start your own venture but unless you are making money, it can only be considered a hobby and not a business.
Learning to cash in from every opportunity that comes your way can only come from practice and implementing the right strategies every single time.
It is important to understand that being successful is not easy and if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. However with planning, execution and determination anything is possible. After all, those are the qualities that make entrepreneurs different to everyone else who go through their entire lives stuck in a 9-5 job.
